From the moment I first saw you, I was in love with you
From the first wag of your tail, I was crazy for you
In the best of times, and also in the worst
You were there with me, unconditionally
When I sang in joy, you barked with me
When I cried in pain, you laid with me
Wherever I went, so also I found you
If I had two shadows, one would be you
When the time came, you chose your prince
And then low and behold, six “Antichrist” puppies
And so came forth a litter of six, born in six hours
From 6 p.m. to 12 am, on the 26th of month 6, 2006
Like little chunks of coal they came forth from her womb
To our surprise nothing like like her color, or of their father
From among the bunch, we decided to keep your irreverent son
As if to leave a footprint, as evidence of your passing this way
With the passing of time, your leaps were not so very high
And your movements by necessity became more delicate
Despite the shadows, no doubt haunting your last years
Daily you had a tremendous desire to get up and live
Then, when finally words were no longer needed
The sun set softly on the horizon of your years
In the magic of my mind you live
Forever jumping and playing
I will love you forever
My best friend
